An Inquiry on General Equilibrium Effects of MERCOSUR—An Intertemporal World Model
نویسندگان
چکیده
A multiregion dynamic computable general equilibrium model is constructed to analyze effects of the Southern Common Market (MERCOSUR) on the member countries as well as third-party nonmember countries. The model is based on intertemporal optimization behaviors of consumers and firms with eight endogenously specified regions. By taking into account dynamic general equilibrium adjustments, we observe significant shifts of trade diversion away from the nonmember trading partners to the member countries. We also find that, following the MERCOSUR’s common external tariffication, growth of intraregional trade would likely be accompanied by increases in trade between MERCOSUR and other countries. In this case, not only MERCOSUR member countries gain more, but also the nonmember countries are better off in terms of their production, consumption, and consumer welfare. 2000 Society for Policy Modeling. Mercosur and the U.s.: an Intertemporal General Equilibrium Evaluation of the Regional Integration
A dynamic general equilibrium model is constructed to analyze the effects of the Southern Common Market (MERCOSUR) on the member countries as well as on the U.S. economy. By taking into account dynamic adjustments, we find that while the effects of MERCOSUR on its member countries’ investment, consumer welfare and national product are positive, the respective effects on the U.S. economy are neg...
متن کاملElasticity of Intertemporal Substitution: An Investigation in Iran
We[1] present estimates of the Elasticity of Intertemporal Substitution (EIS) for Iranian households using synthetic cohort panels based on household micro-data. Results show significant difference with the common values used in Dynamic Stochastic General Equilibrium (DSGE) models which are originally based on estimated values for developed countries. We show that this difference has important ...
متن کاملTrade Liberalization and International Competitiveness in Iran: An Application of Computable General Equilibrium (CGE) Model
Trade liberalization is often the core attention of foreign economic strategies in developing countries. Findings in the literature confirm a significant effect of free trade on developing economies through which the economic sectors benefit from technology transfer and spillovers and increasing production capacities and input productivity leading to international competitiveness. On the other...
متن کاملAn Analysis the Effect of Capital Taxation on Allocation of Resources: A Dynamic Equilibrium Model Approach
Abstract T he return of capital is fundamental to the intertemporal allocation of resources by changing the consumption behavior and capital accumulation over time. Taxation on return of capital increases the marginal product of capital, meaning that capital stock is lower than when capital is not taxed, which results decreased growth and welfare in steady state. This pape...

In this paper ,in order to investigate the economic effects of the minimum wage policy on macroeconomic variables in the framework of the new Keynesian theory, a dynamic stochastic equilibrium general (DSGE) model has been simulated and estimated for an open and small oil exporter economy conforming with the structure of Iran's economy in the range from 1370 to 1395 .In the above mentioned mode...
